Autoimmune Disease Treatment
What causes autoimmune disease?
Autoimmune diseases occur when the body creates cells that attack it’s own tissue. Causes of autoimmunity include genetic predisposition, stress, infections, poor diet, and poor gut health.
Treating Autoimmune Diseases
Despite having different symptoms, the root cause of many different autoimmune diseases is the same. My approach for each patient is customized to their condition but all will include supplementation, stress management, removing toxins, and eating foods that will heal your gut, all while avoiding or minimizing the side effects of prescription drugs.
An unhealthy gut can negatively impact the immune system because approximately 80% of our immune system is in our gut. An unhealthy gut environment, commonly referred to as ‘leaky gut’, can lead to the development of autoimmune diseases, like:
- Hypothyroidism (Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis)
- Hyperthyroidism (Graves’ Disease)
- Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease
- Symptoms of Gut Dysfunction: diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, bloating.
- Symptoms of Autoimmune Disease: muscle pain, joint pain, inflammation
We will work together in partnership and move through your program step-by-step. Your program will likely include a guided detox, dietary guidance and nutritional counseling, supplement prescriptions, gut healing and stress management. Our goal will be to minimize or eliminate unwanted symptoms, while also promoting a healthy immune system.
